Great Building News! The ground breaking for the new building was held Sunday, October 17, 2010. About 250 from the SCVUMC congregation and friends were in attendance. Rev. Mark Conrad opened the ceremony with a prayer. Following introductions representatives of the ACTS youth group erected a wooden cross. The Cross was placed approximately where the altar will be located in the completed building. Rev. Michael Pearson, South District Superintendent, delivered the ground breaking message.

All in attendance carried out the actual ground breaking. Each person grabbed a hundred foot rope attached to an antique one-bottom plow. A straight furrow was plowed under the able direction of Rev. Mark.

Rev. David McPhearson and Rev. Tom Butcher were in attendance representing the Desert Southwest Conference. Other dignitaries included Vice-Mayor Phillip Conklin representing the Town of Sahuarita, Kim Acorn representing Acorn Associates Architecture, Bill Ford representing Barker-Morrissey Contracting and Cort Chalfant representing Rancho Sahuarita Company. Representatives from several churches in the area, including the Green Valley Community Church were also in attendance.

The site had been prepared by a number of men from the church the previous Saturday. Fortunately Joe Swartzentruber provided a tractor to help remove the cactus and brush from the actual building site so that the extent of the building could be shown.
