Day 4…Dawdling

Day 4 of 40 without non-hygienic beauty products

Is that how you spell “dawdling”?  The word that means frittering away time without knowing what you’re doing?  In a Facebook conversation with a friend she commented on how much extra time she would have if she didn’t wear make up.  “Me Too!”  I instinctively replied.  But I haven’t sensed that I have extra time in the mornings as I’m getting ready.  This is not because I haven’t been granted the gift of 20 extra minutes each day.  It’s because I’m dawdling…not doing anything productive with my time.  So, I decided today to start reading a new devotional during my extra morning time.  Here’s what the devotional guide had me read today:

Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
Psalm 139: 13-15

Hmmmmmm….appropriate much?  At some point we have to make a fundamental decision about God’s creative and re-creative activity in our lives. Do we believe that God created us, inside and out, formed us in our mother’s womb?  If so, do we believe that the beauty with which we were  born was temporary, available only until we reached a certain age?  Or do we believe that our beauty is based not on our abilities, but on God’s abilities to make all things beautiful?  I’m coming to embrace my beauty as God inspired, not Mary Kay inspired (not that there’s anything wrong with Mary Kay!!)  I am hopeful that I’ll believe this even after leading worship tomorrow for the first time EVER without make up.
